FALL – WINTER CHECKLIST TO MAINTAIN YOUR HOME.

Fall is here and winter will be here in no time! As the days get shorter and the weather starts getting cooler, it’s time to think about your fall roof maintenance checklist. 

1. Call a Professional to inspect shingles:

2. Gutters & Downspouts:

Leaves, sticks, & other debris can accumulate clogging your gutters. When gutters become clogged, water can sit backing up your gutters. This causes the water to seep in through your roof and also to the walls inside of your home!   This fall, make it a habit to clean out your gutters regularly so water can flow freely to avoid any damages! 

3. Tree trimming:

You may not think to trim or cut overgrown tree branches surrounding your home…. It might be time to reconsider! Limbs that are touching, grazing, or overhang your roof can scrape & scratch shingles. This can lead to premature curling, peeling, shingle loss, & moisture rot to your roof.  This fall, be sure this task is checked off on your list! 

4.  Check attic air flow:

Ensuring your attic has proper ventilation is very important for maintaining your roof. If your attic is not properly insulated, it can be a serious issue. Poor ventilation can cause moisture accumulation in your attic & result in mold – mildew beneath shingles, causing them to rot. To prevent moisture buildup, make sure all vents remain uncovered to allow proper air flow throughout the attic. Also be sure to replace or add extra insulation as needed. 

5. Chimney:

With the colder weather approaching, everyone will want to gather around the fireplace to stay warm & cozy! Before you make plans to fire on the chimney, make sure it is in good working condition. Have the flashing around your chimney inspected and  other areas of the roof to ensure moisture can easily flow away from the rooftop and prevent leaks.
